PLA is a bio-plastic. Bio-plastics are basically plastics made from plants. They can be made from wheat, soya, tapioca and other plants but we use bio-plastic made from cornstarch. The PLA products that we supply are made from American corn. It is low grade corn used to feed animals and is not fit for human consumption. Spare land is also readily available in the U.S to grow this type of crop. PLA is compostable and biodegradable. Packaging made from PLA looks and feels exactly like conventional plastic packaging. It can be used in most packaging applications.

Manufacturing bio-plastics uses less energy than oil based plastics, producers of bio-plastics use renewable energy for their operations and bio-plastic are made from plants which absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere during their growth. Furthermore, the plants used to make bio-plastics grow back annually. This means that the production of bio-plastics is sustainable. In contrast, conventional plastics are made from oil which is a finite resource.
