As a result of heightened media exposure, there has been a huge public outcry surrounding the use of Plastic Straws in the hospitality sector in the UK. This has led to many newspaper, TV & Social Media Campaigns calling for Government action to reduce the impact of straws on the environment. As a consequence of the above, in August 2018, the UK Government launched a consultation proposing to ban the sale and distribution of Plastic Straws, Cotton Buds and Drink Stirrers.
Although the UK has left the European Union, we face the same problems as our European partners when it comes to addressing the problems of single-use plastics and packaging.
There has been limited activity in the UK, English, Scottish, Welsh & Northern Ireland Parliaments; however, action is imminent and will result in significant changes in the supply of single-use plastics and packaging.
